Emergency Preparedness
Safety Guidelines & Action PlanEmergencies can occur quickly with little to no notice. While recognizing that each emergency situation is unique, we can be better prepared if we plan carefully. Preparedness is key. Please familiarize yourself with some of the below emergency preparedness tips.
EVACUATION PLAN
An evacuation plan is a vital step in preparing your family for an emergency. It contains information about safe shelter options, evacuation routes, and how you will reconnect if separated.
- Always follow the instructions of local officials.
- Be familiar with alternate routes and other means of transportation out of your area.
- Establish meeting places that are familiar and easy to find.
- Identify places to stay that will accept pets, if you have them.
- Pre-Identify a “Safe Room”: Such as an interior bathroom, large walk-in closet, or enclosed hallway to take refuge in.
*Media outlets will direct you to available shelters in your area based on recommendations from the Hawai‘i Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Emergency Management. The list of available shelters may vary based on the type of emergency and other evacuation circumstances.
“TAKE 10” SURVIVAL KIT
A home survival kit, emergency food, and water are essential during disasters or extended power outages that leave you confined to your home. Home survival kits should include these 10 essentials.
